Food Recommendations in the Cotswolds

At the start of August, my family and I took a lovely staycation to the Cotswolds. We stayed in an apartment at the Cotswolds Hotel and Spa in Chipping Norton, which I couldn’t recommend enough especially if you play golf!
One of the best things about our stay as well as the lovely weather and scenic walks was definitely the food. Here are 3 of my favourite restaurants that we went to throughout our stay:
The Old Butchers, Stow-on-the-Wold
Despite its name, The Old Butchers actually specialises in seafood. This was by far my favourite restaurant I visited during my stay! For starters, I had the Mussels in a white wine sauce which were plump and juicy. For mains I had the Half Cornish Lobster Thermidor, which I was slightly concerned would not be filling enough for me. However, the dish came with chips and I ordered a side of caesar salad which was a generous sized portion. I enjoyed this with a Frozen Pornstar Martini.

2. The Kingham Plough, Chipping Norton

This restaurant had a lovely outside area and great service. For starters, I had the ‘Smokin Brothers’ Salmon, Avruga Caviar, Capers, Shallot and Gherkins which was beautifully presented. However, this starter was very delicate so if you are hungry, I’d go for the ‘Salt Pig’ Charcuterie Board instead. I struggled to pick a main as they all looked delicious, but I went for the Chargrilled Aged 8oz Longhorn Flat Iron Steak, House Fries, Béarnaise, Watercress. A really tasty meal near our apartment!

3. The Chequers, Churchill
We went to this restaurant for our Sunday Lunch and I loved the interior decor. I had the Roast Chicken & Pigs in Blankets with Roast Potatoes & Bread Sauce. The pigs in blankets were huge and all the roasts were served with Cauliflower Cheese and a selection of seasonal Vegetables, which was an unexpected highlight of the meal.

So, there are my top recommendations for restaurants in the Cotswolds! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it.
